Bio
For David Davis, music has always been bigger than genre.
An accomplished saxophonist, recording artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, David has built a career around a musical voice that brings together the sophistication and improvisation of jazz with the soul of R&B, the spirit of gospel, and the energy of contemporary music.
Born and raised in Connecticut, David graduated from the Hartt School of Music, studying Jazz Studies and Music Management. His musical foundation was shaped significantly through his studies with legendary jazz saxophonist and educator Jackie McLean, becoming one of McLean's protégés.
That foundation would eventually carry David far beyond Connecticut.
Throughout his career, he has performed and collaborated with artists spanning multiple generations and genres, including Mary J. Blige, Deborah Cox, LL Cool J, Brian McKnight, Keith Washington, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Biz Markie, John P. Kee, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayers, Donald Harrison, Dave Valentin, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Sherry Winston, Chuck Loeb, and Gloria Lynne, among others.
His career has also reached international stages, with performances in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing during the 2008 Olympic Games.
Yet the saxophone tells only part of his story.
David is also a producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, incorporating keyboards, drums and percussion, electronic wind instrument (EWI), programming, and vocals into his creative work. Through his production and publishing work, he has written and produced music spanning jazz, R&B, gospel, hip-hop, and dance while developing an extensive catalog of original and collaborative recordings.
That breadth of experience has shaped an artist who is equally comfortable honoring the traditions of jazz and pushing beyond them.
David's live performances are built around connection: the conversation between musicians, the energy exchanged with an audience, and those spontaneous moments that can never be duplicated exactly the same way again.
His warm, commanding saxophone tone, improvisational style, versatility, and engaging stage presence have become signatures of the David Davis experience.
Now, David is entering a new chapter. Drawing upon decades of musicianship while embracing a renewed creative vision, he is bringing together his experience as a performer, recording artist, producer, and composer to create music and live experiences that move, connect, uplift, and inspire.
It's not simply about playing another show.
It's about creating a moment people remember.
